Sunrise at Borobudur Temple is a must-see sight when you are in Yogyakarta. This temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world and has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Getting to Know Borobudur Temple

Built in the 9th century, Borobudur consists of nine platforms stacked one on top of the other. Six square platforms form the base, topped by three round platforms crowned with large stupas. At the top of the temple, you will find 504 Buddha statues and 2,672 relief panels, making it the largest and most complete collection of Buddhist reliefs in the world.

Watching the sunrise at Borobudur is easy. Meet your travel service driver at the appointed time at your hotel in Yogyakarta. Do not leave Jogja later than 03:30. Upon arrival at Borobudur, the driver will take you directly to the ticket counter of the Manohara resort. He may even escort you to the counter to make sure you don’t get lost. The Manhoara resort is located inside the temple complex and is the only place that allows early access to Borobudur.

That is why some people call it the Manohara Sunrise when referring to the sunrise at Borobudur. Borobudur is currently not open for sunrise viewing. The complex only opens at 9am, and tickets to the top of Borobudur are limited.
